Operating Entity

RetroTechCollector is a service operated by RetroTechCollection.

Operating Entity: RetroTechCollection Service Name: RetroTechCollector Operating Entity Website: https://retrotechcollection.com Service URL: https://retrotechcollector.app

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of RetroTechCollector. By accessing or using our website, mobile applications, or services, you agree to be bound by these Terms. In these Terms, "we", "us", and "our" refer to RetroTechCollection, the operating company.

If you don't agree with any part of these Terms, you shouldn't use RetroTechCollector.

1. About RetroTechCollector

RetroTechCollector is a platform for cataloguing, managing, and trading retro technology collections. We provide tools for inventory management, marketplace transactions, social features, and data analytics related to vintage computing and gaming equipment.

RetroTechCollection is based in the United Kingdom and operates under UK law. Our registered office address is available upon request.

Our service runs on infrastructure located in the United States. What that means for your personal data, and the safeguards that cover it, are set out in our GDPR statement.

2. Your Account

Registration

To use most features, you need to create an account. When you register, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old, or have parental consent if you're between 13 and 18
  • Provide accurate information (email address, username)
  • Keep your password secure
  • Not share your account with anyone else
  • Not create multiple accounts to evade bans or restrictions

We don't ask for your date of birth, so we can't verify your age. The age requirement above is a term you're agreeing to, not something we check. If we learn an account belongs to someone under 13, we'll close it.

You're responsible for everything that happens through your account. If you think someone else is using your account, tell us immediately at [email protected].

Username Requirements

Your username:

  • Must be unique
  • Can't impersonate others or be offensive
  • Can be changed once every 30 days
  • Becomes available for others if your account is deleted

We reserve the right to reclaim usernames that violate these Terms or are inactive for extended periods.

3. Subscriptions and Payments

Plans

There are three plans:

Hobbyist (free)CollectorEnthusiast
Price£0£5/month or £50/year£15/month or £150/year
Items in your collectionUnlimitedUnlimitedUnlimited
Photos per item10UnlimitedUnlimited
Storage locations3UnlimitedUnlimited
Marketplace (buying and selling)YesYesYes
Selling fee0%0%0%
Social featuresYesYesYes
Export your dataYesYesYes
Aggregate analyticsNoYesYes
AI identifications per month2060200
AI condition grades per month320100
Bulk operationsNoNoYes
Data API accessNoNoYes

Two things follow from that table, and we state them plainly because paid plans are sometimes assumed to buy them:

  • There is no limit on how many items you can catalogue, on any plan, including the free one. There is also no limit on how many things you can list for sale at once.
  • No plan buys a cheaper selling rate. Selling costs 0% on every plan while our launch fee holiday is running. See Section 4 and the Marketplace Terms.

Paid plans buy capability: analytics, higher AI allowances, bulk operations and API access. They do not buy permission to use the core product.

Prices, currency and VAT

Prices are in pounds sterling and you are billed in GBP whatever display currency you've set in the app. If a price is shown to you in another currency it's an indicative conversion for your convenience, not the amount that will be charged.

We are not VAT-registered, so no VAT is added to the prices above. If that changes we will say so before it takes effect.

Free trial

Subscribing on the web includes a 14-day free trial, available once per account and only if you have never previously held a paid subscription with us. You give a payment method up front; if you cancel before the trial ends you are not charged. If the trial ends without a valid payment method, the subscription is cancelled.

Trials on iOS and Android are offered and controlled by Apple and Google under their own introductory-offer rules, and each store decides your eligibility.

How you pay depends on where you subscribe

  • On the web, subscriptions are billed through Stripe. Payment methods, billing history, and cancellation are managed from your account settings.
  • On the iOS app, subscriptions are billed through Apple In-App Purchase. Payment is charged to your Apple Account, and your subscription is managed through iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions, not through our app.
  • On the Android app, subscriptions are billed through Google Play Billing. Payment is charged to your Google Account, and your subscription is managed through the Google Play Store, not through our app.

A subscription purchased through one channel does not automatically cover the others. It unlocks the same plan features, but the billing relationship exists with whichever provider (Stripe, Apple or Google) took the payment. Accidentally paying twice results in two separate subscriptions; cancel the one you don't want.

Web billing (Stripe)

When you subscribe to a paid plan through the web:

  • You'll be charged immediately for the first billing period (after any free trial ends)
  • Billing repeats monthly or annually on the same day, depending on the plan you chose
  • We'll try to notify you before price increases, but continued use means you accept the new price
  • Payment is processed through Stripe; we don't store your card details

iOS billing (Apple In-App Purchase)

If you subscribe through the iOS app, the following Apple-mandated terms apply in addition to these Terms:

  • Auto-renewal: Your subscription is an auto-renewing subscription. Payment will be charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase, and the subscription automatically renews at the same price and plan unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
  • Renewal charges: Your Apple Account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period at the price shown when you subscribed (or any updated price Apple has surfaced to you and which you have consented to).
  • Free trials: If your subscription includes a free trial, any unused portion of the free trial is forfeited when you purchase a paid subscription. Apple enforces trial eligibility at the Apple ID level. If you have previously used a trial on this plan, Apple will not offer you another one.
  • Cancelling on iOS: You can cancel at any time by opening iOS Settings → Apple ID (your name at the top) → Subscriptions → RetroTechCollector, and tapping Cancel Subscription. To avoid being charged for the next period, cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
  • Managing your plan on iOS: Upgrades, downgrades, and switches between monthly and annual billing are handled inside the iOS Subscriptions sheet. Our app will deep-link you to the correct Apple screen when you tap "Manage subscription".

Android billing (Google Play)

If you subscribe through the Android app, Google Play is the merchant of record and Google's own terms apply to the payment:

  • Your subscription auto-renews until cancelled, and Google charges your Google Account at the start of each period.
  • Cancel through the Google Play Store (Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions). Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for.
  • Refunds for Google Play purchases are handled under Google's refund policy, not ours.

Cancellation and refunds

Cancelling your subscription:

  • Web subscribers: cancel at any time from your account settings. You keep access until the end of your current billing period; your subscription won't renew.
  • iOS subscribers: cancel through iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions, at least 24 hours before the current period ends. You keep access until the end of that period.
  • Android subscribers: cancel through the Google Play Store. You keep access until the end of the period you have paid for.

In all cases, when your subscription ends:

  • Your data remains accessible
  • You'll lose paid-plan features but keep everything you've already added to your collection
  • You can re-subscribe at any time

Refunds:

  • Web (Stripe): we don't offer refunds for partial months. If you believe you've been charged incorrectly, contact [email protected] within 14 days and we'll investigate.
  • iOS (Apple In-App Purchase): refund requests for subscriptions purchased through Apple must be made directly to Apple. We don't have the ability to refund Apple charges. Use reportaproblem.apple.com to open a refund request with Apple. Apple reviews each request at its own discretion.
  • Android (Google Play): refund requests for subscriptions purchased through Google Play must be made to Google. We can't refund a Google Play charge.

What happens when you move to a lower plan

Nothing in your collection is deleted, hidden, or locked when you downgrade, and because items are unlimited on every plan there is no "you're over the limit" state to resolve. You keep every item, listing, photo and message you already had.

What changes is what you can do next:

  • Photos already on an item stay. On the free plan you can't add an eleventh photo to an item.
  • Storage locations you've already created stay. On the free plan you can't create a fourth.
  • Aggregate analytics, bulk operations and Data API access stop being available.
  • Your monthly AI identification and condition-grading allowances drop to the free plan's.

On iOS and Android, plan changes follow the store's own convention and generally take effect at the end of the current billing period. On the web, the new plan takes effect immediately with a prorated credit applied to the next invoice.

Discount codes

Promotional discount codes can only be redeemed on web subscriptions billed through Stripe. They cannot be applied to Apple or Google in-app purchases. Neither store's payment system supports our discount codes at checkout. If we run a store-specific promotion it will be delivered through that store's own introductory or promotional offer mechanism.

4. Using the Marketplace

General rules

The marketplace lets you buy, sell, or trade items with other users. When using the marketplace:

  • You must be 18 or older
  • Listings must be accurate and honest
  • You're responsible for items you sell
  • You must follow through on accepted offers
  • You are responsible for getting the item to the buyer, whether you buy a postage label through us or arrange your own
  • We facilitate payments but aren't party to your transactions

The full rules for listing, offers, payouts, shipping, returns, ratings and disputes are in the Marketplace Terms. This section is a summary; where the two differ on marketplace matters, the Marketplace Terms govern.

What it costs

Selling costs 0% on every plan. A launch fee holiday is in effect: we currently take nothing from a sale, and no plan buys a cheaper rate. If we end the holiday we'll publish the new rate and give notice before it applies, and a sale will always be charged at the rate in force when it was made.

Buyer protection fee. A buyer checking out a basket pays a buyer-protection fee of 3% of the items subtotal plus £0.50. It is paid by the buyer and does not reduce a seller's payout. It does not apply to a single-item Buy Now.

Postage labels bought through the platform are charged at the price quoted at the time you buy the label.

Prohibited items

You can't list:

  • Stolen goods or items you don't have legal right to sell
  • Counterfeits or reproductions falsely advertised as authentic
  • Items that violate intellectual property rights
  • Illegal items under UK law
  • Items prohibited by payment processors (weapons, adult content, etc.)
  • Items that pose safety risks

We'll remove prohibited listings and may suspend accounts for violations.

Seller requirements

To receive payments, you must:

  • Complete Stripe Connect onboarding
  • Provide accurate identity information
  • Have a valid bank account
  • Comply with tax obligations in your jurisdiction

You are responsible for your own tax position, including whether you need to register for VAT. We are not VAT-registered and we do not calculate, collect or remit VAT on your sales.

Buyer protection

When you buy through the marketplace:

  • Payments go through Stripe
  • The seller's proceeds are held after checkout and released once delivery is confirmed
  • You can open a dispute if items don't match descriptions or don't arrive
  • Refunds (if approved) go back to your original payment method

Seller obligations

When you sell:

  • Ship items promptly (within timeframes stated in your listing)
  • Provide tracking information when available
  • Respond to buyer messages within 2 business days
  • Pack items securely
  • Describe items accurately and honestly

Failing to meet these obligations repeatedly may result in marketplace suspension.

5. User Content

What you post

You're responsible for everything you upload, post, or share on RetroTechCollector. This includes:

  • Collection item details and images
  • Marketplace listings, including any video or document attachments
  • Questions and answers on listings, and wanted ads
  • Messages to other users
  • Profile and storefront information
  • Reviews and ratings

By posting content, you confirm that:

  • You own it or have permission to use it
  • It doesn't violate anyone else's rights (copyright, trademark, privacy, etc.)
  • It's accurate to the best of your knowledge
  • It doesn't break any laws

Licence to us

When you post content, you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to display it on the platform, make it available to other users, make technical copies for backups and performance, and resize or reformat images for different devices.

You keep ownership of your content. This licence ends when you delete the content or close your account, except for copies in backups which we'll delete according to our retention schedule.

What we can remove

We can remove content if it:

  • Violates these Terms
  • Infringes intellectual property
  • Is illegal
  • Is spam or misleading
  • Is reported by other users and we determine it's inappropriate
  • Poses security risks to our platform or users

We'll try to notify you if we remove your content, but aren't required to.

6. Acceptable Use

We have zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behaviour. Don't use RetroTechCollector to:

  • Harass, threaten, or abuse other users
  • Post racist, sexist, or discriminatory content
  • Post sexually explicit, violent, hateful, or otherwise objectionable material
  • Impersonate others
  • Spam or send unsolicited marketing
  • Scrape data or use automated tools without permission
  • Attempt to hack, disrupt, or damage our systems
  • Manipulate ratings or reviews
  • Create fake listings or shill bid
  • Circumvent any restrictions we've placed on your account
  • Violate any applicable laws

We can suspend or terminate accounts that violate acceptable use, with or without warning depending on severity. Use the flag icon next to any post, comment, message, listing, or profile to report objectionable content, and use the Block button on a user's profile to prevent them from contacting you.

7. AI Features

Three parts of the product use AI: suggesting what an item is from a photo, suggesting a condition grade, and drafting a listing description.

All three are assistants, not decision-makers. Each one produces a suggestion you accept, edit or reject, and nothing reaches your collection, your listing or another user until you decide. Each also has a manual alternative, so you never have to use AI to use the product.

Because the output is yours once you accept it, you remain responsible for what you publish. If you accept a suggested identification, condition or description and list an item on that basis, the listing is your representation to the buyer, and a dispute is judged against what your listing said. Check it before you publish.

Monthly allowances are set out in the plan table in Section 3. What data is sent to the model provider, what we keep, and our position under the EU AI Act are in AI Features and the EU AI Act.

8. Intellectual Property

Our rights

RetroTechCollector, our logo, and our original content are protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws. You can't use them without written permission.

The platform's code, design, and functionality are our property. You can't copy, modify, or reverse engineer them.

Third-party content

Some features integrate with Wikipedia, IGDB, Giant Bomb, PriceCharting, LaunchBox and other third-party sources. That content belongs to its respective owners and may be licensed under different terms.

If you believe something on RetroTechCollector infringes your copyright, email [email protected] with:

  • Your contact details
  • Description of the copyrighted work
  • Location of the infringing content on our platform
  • A statement that you believe in good faith the use isn't authorised
  • A statement that your notice is accurate and you're authorised to act
  • Your physical or electronic signature

We'll investigate and take appropriate action, which may include removing the content. If you repeatedly post infringing content, we'll terminate your account.

9. Privacy and Data

We collect and process your data as described in our Privacy Policy. By using RetroTechCollector, you consent to this processing.

Key points:

  • We collect what's necessary to provide the service
  • We don't sell your personal data
  • You can export your data at any time
  • You can request deletion (subject to legal requirements)
  • We comply with UK GDPR
  • Your data is processed on infrastructure in the United States (see GDPR)
  • Direct messages are encrypted while stored, but they are not end-to-end encrypted: we hold the key, and staff can read a message that has been reported so it can be moderated

Read the full Privacy Policy for details.

10. Third Party Services

We rely on third-party services to run the platform, including:

  • Stripe: card payments, marketplace payouts, and web subscription billing
  • Apple: In-App Purchase billing on iOS
  • Google Play: in-app billing on Android
  • RevenueCat: subscription lifecycle tracking for iOS and Android purchases (receipt validation, renewal, cancellation and refund notifications)
  • Google Cloud Platform: application hosting, database and image storage
  • Google Cloud Vertex AI: the AI features described in Section 7
  • Shippo: postage labels and delivery tracking
  • Cloudflare: content delivery and protection against attack
  • Sentry: error and performance monitoring
  • An email provider for transactional and security email

These services have their own terms and privacy policies. We're not responsible for them. The full list, with what each one processes and where, is in our GDPR statement.

When you click external links (like Wikipedia), you're subject to those sites' terms.

11. Disputes Between Users

If you have a problem with another user:

  1. Try to resolve it directly through our messaging system
  2. If that doesn't work, you can open a formal dispute through your transaction page
  3. We'll review evidence from both sides
  4. We'll make a decision within 7 business days
  5. Our decision is final

We're not judges or arbitrators. We facilitate the dispute process but can't force users to take specific actions. If we determine a seller failed to deliver or a buyer made false claims, we may refund, suspend accounts, or take other action. The full process is in the Marketplace Terms.

For items bought outside our marketplace, we can't help with disputes.

12. Termination

By you

You can close your account at any time from settings. Closing an account requires you to re-authenticate, with your password or with your sign-in provider if you registered that way, so a stolen session can't delete your account. When you close your account:

  • Your public content may remain visible until we process the deletion (usually within 30 days)
  • Your subscription cancels
  • You can request complete data deletion
  • Some data is retained for legal and accounting purposes, as set out in GDPR

By us

We can suspend or terminate your account if:

  • You violate these Terms
  • You engage in fraudulent activity
  • Your account is inactive for more than 2 years
  • We're required to by law
  • We discontinue the service (with reasonable notice)

If we terminate for violations, you may not be eligible for refunds.

13. Disclaimers

RetroTechCollector is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent permitted by law, we don't warrant uninterrupted or error-free service, don't guarantee user-generated content accuracy, aren't responsible for data loss, don't verify marketplace item authenticity, and don't guarantee transaction completion.

Catalogue data, valuations, price history and AI suggestions are informational. They are not a guarantee of what an item is, what condition it's in, or what it's worth.

You use RetroTechCollector at your own risk.

14. Limitation of Liability

Under UK law, we can't limit liability for:

  • Death or personal injury caused by our negligence
  • Fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation
  • Any other liability that can't be limited by law

Subject to that, our total liability to you is limited to:

  • The amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or
  • £100 (whichever is greater)

We're not liable for:

  • Lost profits or business opportunities
  • Loss of data (unless caused by our negligence)
  • Indirect or consequential losses
  • Issues arising from third-party services
  • Disputes between users
  • Your tax obligations

15. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify us against claims arising from your use of the platform, content you post, violation of these Terms, violation of others' rights, and marketplace transactions.

This means if someone sues us because of something you did, you're responsible for the costs and damages.

16. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms. When we do:

  • We'll update the "Last Updated" date at the top
  • For material changes, we'll notify you by email or platform notification at least 30 days before they take effect
  • Continuing to use RetroTechCollector after changes means you accept them
  • If you don't agree with changes, close your account before they take effect

When we publish a new version of these Terms you'll be asked to accept it the next time you sign in, and we record which version you accepted and when.

17. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, except:

  • You can bring claims in your own country if you're a consumer under local law
  • We can seek injunctive relief in any jurisdiction if necessary to protect our rights

18. General

Severability: If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.

No Waiver: If we don't enforce a right, that doesn't mean we've waived it.

Assignment: You can't transfer these Terms. We can assign them to a successor (like if we're acquired).

Entire Agreement: These Terms, along with our Privacy Policy and other referenced policies, constitute the entire agreement between us.

Force Majeure: We're not liable for failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control (natural disasters, war, government action, network failures, etc.).

Survival: Sections that should reasonably survive termination (like intellectual property, liability limitations, and dispute resolution) continue after your account closes.

19. Additional Terms for Apple App Store Users

If you obtained the RetroTechCollector app from the Apple App Store, the following additional terms apply to your use of the iOS app. These terms are required by Apple and supplement, rather than replace, the rest of these Terms:

  • Relationship with Apple: These Terms are between you and RetroTechCollection only. Apple Inc. is not a party to these Terms and is not responsible for the app or its content.

  • Scope of Licence: Apple grants you a limited, non-transferable licence to use the RetroTechCollector app on any Apple-branded device you own or control, as permitted by the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.

  • Maintenance and Support: RetroTechCollection is solely responsible for providing any maintenance and support services for the app. Apple has no obligation whatsoever to provide any maintenance or support services for the app.

  • Warranty: RetroTechCollection is solely responsible for any product warranties, whether express or implied by law, to the extent not effectively disclaimed. In the event of any failure of the app to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any) for the app to you. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Apple will have no other warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to the app, and any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs, or expenses attributable to any failure to conform to any warranty will be RetroTechCollection's sole responsibility.

  • Product Claims: RetroTechCollection, not Apple, is responsible for addressing any claims relating to the app or your use of it, including (i) product liability claims, (ii) any claim that the app fails to conform to any applicable legal or regulatory requirement, and (iii) claims arising under consumer protection, privacy, or similar legislation.

  • Intellectual Property Rights: In the event of any third-party claim that the app or your possession and use of the app infringes that third party's intellectual property rights, RetroTechCollection (not Apple) will be solely responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement, and discharge of any such intellectual property infringement claim.

  • Legal Compliance: You represent and warrant that (i) you are not located in a country that is subject to a U.S. Government embargo, or that has been designated by the U.S. Government as a "terrorist supporting" country; and (ii) you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

  • Developer Contact: RetroTechCollection, [email protected]. You may contact us with any question, complaint, or claim relating to the app.

  • Third-Party Terms of Agreement: You must comply with any applicable third-party terms of agreement when using the app.

  • Third-Party Beneficiary: You and RetroTechCollection acknowledge and agree that Apple, and Apple's subsidiaries, are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms (as they relate to your licence of the iOS app), and that, upon your acceptance of these Terms, Apple will have the right (and will be deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce these Terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.
